International Standard ISO 20022

The National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in collaboration with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member countries, is actively working on the implementation of the international standard ISO 20022 in national payment systems.

At the EAEU level, the following documents have been developed and accepted:

• Recommendations of the Working Group on the Coordination of the Development of National Payment Systems on the Implementation of ISO 20022 in the National Payment Systems of EAEU Countries. General Provisions.
• Basic model for exchanging financial messages for customer-initiated fund transfers within the EAEU. Recommendations.
• Recommendations on the application of the cross-border classifier of ISO 20022 financial message elements.
• Unified format for payment (financial) messages for use in cross-border fund transfers based on ISO 20022 messages.
• Prototype of the financial message “Pain.001.001.08 ‘Initiation of Customer Fund Transfer.”

Approved documents include:

• Procedure for exchanging information messages (communication model).
• Description of the structure of transport messages, signatures, and encryption in the payment systems of Kazakhstan.
• Procedure for exchanging financial messages for sender-initiated fund transfers.
• Procedure for exchanging financial messages for beneficiary-initiated fund transfers.
• Description of the structure of financial messages in the payment system of Kazakhstan.
• Action plan for the implementation of the ISO 20022 international standard in the payment systems of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2022-2023.
